Arrived at the farm in the morning greeted by emus and an array of birds. Kym and I took careful selection of our birds, choosing 4 chicks and 3 quail. The drive home was dedicated to naming them.

The Chicks:
Loretta: Jersey Blue
Evelyn: Feather-footed bantam random variety
Francine: American bantam
Gertrude: Buff-colored random variety

The Quail:
Maive: Tuxedo quail
Masi: Italian quail
Pippie: Red golden quail

Most of the day was spent arranging their new home, placing them in the heated-floor bathroom in a box (labeled Books for the Future) and holding them. They are only 2 weeks old but already have such distinct personalities. For instance, Evelyn likes to kick her food behind her before eating it. Leif says she has bell-bottoms on since her feet are covered with feathers. Francine is by far the smallest and sweetest, and likes to sleep in my hands. She makes a half-purr noise as she snores. Probably the most adorable thing I've seen lately.
